I’m looking into dabbling (very small amounts of money, by the way) in the stock market. As I understand, starting an IRA, I can provide a form of tax shelter with this money, as long as I don’t look to withdraw this money. I don’t plan on taking any of this money out for years and years, and years. Can someone explain this to me, and help me to find the cheapest real-time trading companies online? I’m a complete novice at this stock market thing.

As in cheap or low cost per trade, low commission.

Fast, not taking too long to actually perform the transaction, if possible honoring prices they themselves gave.

Easy, not having to put a lot of info on each trade, if possible single click, and good friendly customer service

Offering the option to have cash dividends sent to your home instead of being reinvested.

I might also want the option to have the ‘paper’ representation given for stocks be sent to my house.
Also preferably no membership fee or annual fee if possible.

…and relatively cheap charges per trade? I want to play around with the stock market but I only want to invest a few hundred dollars and I know some brokerages have a minimum deposit of quite a bit more than that. I also would like a broker that doesn’t charge for account inactivity as I won’t be trading very often. Scottrade seems good so far but they require $500 deposit and I was hoping I could invest less than that

I know Sharebuilder has the lowest commission ($4), but there trade fee is high ($16). Is there another way to buy and sell without these “hidden” fees? Which online trade company is the most honest, upright, and doesn’t hide fees?

Okay like im really intertested in trading but i don’t have the required amount to open an account. I wanted to sign up with Scottrade but its in U.S. only, so if anyone know’s of brokerage that’ll be really helpful. Or a broker that will allow me to open an account with a mastercard, i asked my MC if they allow to transfer from my credit card to my bank account but they don’t so a broker that will allow me to open one up with a MC will be great. thanks

I use MB Trading, a direct-access broker that only charges $0.01 per share (minimum of $1 per trade) and offers pretty comprehensive services, but I’m interested in seeing who other people trade with. Please don’t answer Scottrade or Ameritrade or any other company that charges more than $5 per trade.

I’m using scottrade right now and I bought a few dividend paying ETFs. Scottrade will only credit my account or mail me a check, but they won’t put the dividends back into buying more shares.

I’d like to move to another online broker, but I don’t know which other ones allow for DRIPS and aren’t too expensive. Any ideas?
